How it works

Every week has a purpose. The programme is progressive — each phase building on the last, guided by a Level 4 specialist who understands back pain from the inside out.

1–2
Phase One
Assess & Activate

Movement screen, posture analysis, pain mapping. We find out exactly what's going on before we do anything else.

3–4
Phase Two
Foundation

Core and hip activation. Safe, targeted movement patterns that start switching the right muscles back on.

5–6
Phase Three
Build

Progressive loading begins. Strength builds in the muscles that protect your spine. You start to feel different.

7–8
Phase Four
Strengthen & Sustain

Consolidate the gains. Build the habits and strength that keep you pain-free long after the programme ends.

Session schedule

Three sessions.
Three days a week.

All sessions run at 12:30pm — designed to fit around work and family life without taking over your day.

Monday 12:30pm
Back Strong Session

Targeted core, hip, and spinal stability training. Coached throughout. Small group — never more than a handful of members.

Tuesday 12:30pm
Back Strong Session

Progressive movement work. Each session builds on the last, with Mike adjusting load and complexity as you develop.

Thursday 12:30pm
Back Strong Session

The third session locks in the week's work. Rest days either side give your body time to adapt and rebuild.

Lower back pain is one of the most common and most mishandled conditions in fitness. Most trainers avoid it. I've made it my specialism.

As the only Level 4 qualified back pain specialist PT in the Midlands, I've built Back Strong around what the evidence actually says — progressive loading, targeted core and hip work, and pain monitoring that keeps the programme safe and effective throughout.

Common questions

Before you apply.

Do I need a diagnosis before joining? +
No formal diagnosis is required. If you're experiencing chronic lower back pain and have been cleared for exercise by a GP or physio, Back Strong is suitable for you. We do our own movement screen and assessment at the start of the programme.
Is it safe if my pain is quite severe? +
Yes — but we need to know what we're working with. Every Back Strong member completes a full movement screen and posture assessment before we begin. Pain is monitored throughout every session, and the programme is adjusted to what your body can handle. We never push through pain — we work around it intelligently.
What if I miss a session? +
Life happens. Missing the occasional session won't derail the programme — the structure is designed with enough frequency that you stay on track even if you miss one here and there. Consistency across the 8 weeks matters more than perfect attendance.
Can I join if I'm currently seeing a physio? +
Absolutely. Back Strong is designed to complement physiotherapy, not replace it. Many members have joined while also working with a physio. We're happy to communicate with your physio if that's helpful.
What happens after the 8 weeks? +
Most Back Strong members continue their training at MFF after the programme — through Spartan16 or TRX Memberships. The 8 weeks gives you a strong foundation; most people want to build on it. We'll discuss your options at the end of the programme.
Where does it take place? +
All sessions are in-person at Mike Foster Fitness in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 12:30pm.
